Three steps. ~45 minutes.
Pay once, run the app on the Mac you're selling, share the cert URL with prospective buyers. No account, no install bloat. Just a notarized .dmg and your terminal idle for the burn-in.
We email you a single-use download link plus an activation token. No account, no password. Email is your identifier across the whole product.
Download the .dmg, drag to Applications, paste the activation token, click Run. Five minutes of fast checks, then a 30–45 minute supervised burn-in.
We generate macfax.com/r/{id} and email it. Paste it into your eBay listing, Reddit comment, or DM. Buyers re-verify from there.
Notarized. Sandboxed. Reads only.
The Macfax app is signed and notarized by Apple. It reads system_profiler, ioreg, and SMART data; it does not modify your system, request privacy permissions you haven't already granted, or upload anything beyond the signed diagnostic payload.
- Reads device identifiers (model, serial, chassis serial, logic-board serial)
- Reads SMART data, battery cycle count, system_profiler output
- Runs sustained CPU and GPU stress to surface thermal/throttling issues
- Runs a 30-min memtest pass on a chunk of unused RAM
- Signs the diagnostic payload via App Attest (Secure Enclave)
- Uploads only the signed payload, with no telemetry and no usage analytics
Apple Silicon Macs only, for now.
App Attest is available on Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 11+. Intel Macs don't have a Secure Enclave with the same primitives, so they fail the attestation step. iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch attestation are post-MVP.
