Check an iPhone serial.
Enter an iPhone serial and Macfax returns the exact model, including the randomized serials Apple has used since 2021. Have a model number instead? The table below maps every iPhone model number since iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
Find the serial on an iPhone.
- On the iPhone: Settings → General → About shows the Serial Number. Touch and hold it to copy.
- On a Mac: connect the iPhone and select it in the Finder sidebar. The serial is among the details under its name; click that line to cycle through them.
- Off the device: the original box carries the serial on its barcode label.
- Buying one? Ask for a screenshot of Settings → General → About, and check its serial against the box and any receipt.
Check a listing against the serial.
- A listing says iPhone 15 Pro, 256 GB.
- Ask the seller for a screenshot of Settings → General → About, and paste the serial from it above.
- If the result reads iPhone 15 rather than iPhone 15 Pro, the listing is wrong, whatever the photos show.
- Capacity is on the same About screen. The serial does not encode it.
Every iPhone since iPhone 8
Have a model number instead of a serial? In Settings → General → About, tap Model Number to see the one that starts with A, then find it below. The serial lookup above returns the model from the serial alone.

Questions about iPhone serials
Can I check if an iPhone is stolen or locked by its serial?
No. Activation Lock, carrier lock and blacklist status live with Apple and the carriers, and Macfax does not read them. Before you pay, have the seller sign out of their Apple Account on the phone in front of you.
Is the serial number the same as the IMEI?
No. The serial identifies the iPhone to Apple, and the IMEI identifies it to cellular networks. Settings → General → About shows both. Macfax looks up the serial.
Does Macfax show what an iPhone is worth?
No. For iPhones, Macfax identifies the model from the serial. Market values, listings and signed condition reports are for Macs.
Identifying a whole fleet?
Paste a list of serials into the bulk lookup and download the answers as a CSV, or call the API from your own inventory tool.
