Find the serial on an iPad.
- On the iPad: Settings → General → About shows the Serial Number. Touch and hold it to copy.
- On a Mac: connect the iPad and select it in the Finder sidebar. The serial is among the details under its name; click that line to cycle through them.
- Off the device: the original box carries the serial on its barcode label.
- Taking in a batch? Read the serial from Settings → General → About on each iPad, and check it against the box or the asset tag.

Questions about iPad serials
Can I check if an iPad is locked or stolen by its serial?
No. Activation Lock and blacklist status live with Apple and the carriers, and Macfax does not read them. Before you pay, have the seller sign out of their Apple Account on the iPad in front of you.
What is the difference between the serial and the model number?
The serial is unique to one iPad. The model number, an A followed by four digits, is shared by every iPad of that model and region. Macfax looks up the serial; the table above maps model numbers.
Does Macfax show what an iPad is worth?
No. For iPads, Macfax identifies the model from the serial. Market values, listings and signed condition reports are for Macs.
